Why is cleaning regarded as a dead end job part 2
why is cleaning regarded as a dead end job part one
Beyond part time cleaning, many cleaners if they want can choose a career in the cleaning industry, it is after all a huge industry with well paid rewarding positions. Most cleaning contractors , certainly here at ICS, have worked first as cleaners and worked themselves up through the ranks. Once you have had the experience of commercial cleaning yourself you will make a far superior supervisor, manager or director as you know exactly what is involved, it also means you know what you are talking about when you discuss cleaning with clients.
The hardest positions to fill in a cleaning company are good supervisors and managers, because they are so well sought after. Here at ICS we want cleaners to shine (bad pun sorry!) so we can give them the opportunity to work their way up and gain more responsibility and rewards. Training, whether internal or external all helps with getting people to realise their potential and to understand cleaning is not a dead end job or just a job that beneath others.
Promoting cleaners and cleaning as a well paid, rewarding job would also go a long way to Britains mentality of seeing cleaning as just a necessary evil that has to be done for as low cost as possible. If clients and contract cleaning companies see cleaners as trained, hard working professionals, they may think twice about continually driving costs down and realise to get a good service involves many things not least getting rid of an outdated attitude of cleaning being a dead end job.
