Was cutting VAT a good way of trying to rescue the country out of the current climate.
In a slight departure from or
usual contract cleaning based
articles, here at ICS cleaning we came upon an article asking whether
the vat cut and cost to the government could not have been spent more
wisely.
We have had to make all the accounting changes alongside our clients, adjusting our systems to cope with the new vat changes, but these unseen costs are not what we are looking at here. But rather we ask has the vat rate made any difference to cleaning industry and the economy as a whole, not a jot we would suggest. Why? Because most contract cleaning companies and clients are vat registered so would claim the vat back anyways.
Apparently it is costing £12.5 billion to the government and effectively to us the taxpayer per year to lower the vat rate, but couldn't have this money been spent more wisely?
The article in .net magazine, suggests that the money could have been spent in a much better manner by investing money into Britain's woefully underfunded broadband structure, rather than cutting the vat rate from 17.5% to 15% which is only £2.50 off a net £100 purchase, not a great deal or a great incentive to spark the economy into life.
According to the Broadband Stakeholders Group, £28.5 billion would bring the very fastest connections to every home in the UK, but even more interesting £5.1 billion would bring speeds of up 30 to 100 mps into every home, this they reckon is the total cost not per year.
As innovative cleaning company we do a lot of our business through the net, and we can see the advantages not just to web based companies but to all sorts of businesses.
Surely investing in a decent broadband structure would be a far more valuable way of not only helping a growing part of the economy but also as giving a great base for the future of the economy placing the UK at the forefront rather than as the latecomer to this all important marketplace.
ICS Cleaning are an eco friendly office cleaning company in the UK; we invest a great deal in selecting the right staff, ensuring they have excellent ongoing training and support, so we can be sure we deliver excellent cleaning standards day in day out.
