European commission launches its Green Public Procurement initiative for the cleaning industry but has it missed the point?
The European commission's Green
Public Procurement initiative for the cleaning industry has been
launched but seems to miss many key areas in our industry which could be look into with
a view to making them more environmentally friendly.
The initiative has focused mainly on the cleaning chemicals cleaning companies use and what the environmental impact of these are.
Looking into environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals is fine however we would suggest it is far too late. Since ICS Cleaning pushed to improve all areas of the cleaning industry in regards to being more environmentally friendly the ripple effect has been significant. Many leading cleaning chemical manufacturing companies are already producing eco friendly alternatives because of commercial reasons, they are in demand, so for the European commission to look into this now is too late as it's already happening.
What the commission failed to look at, which in ICS's view is a key area for improvement, is into is waste management, how should cleaning companies manage the waste they collect?
Nothing is mentioned in the report about this, are we to assume that cleaning companies and clients waste should keep on being dumped into landfill sites regardless on the environmental impact?
With this in view ICS Cleaning have now introduced an easy to carry out recycling collection service with the aim of trying to reduce any unnecessary waste ending up in a landfill site.
We understand people are busy but still want to their bit to help the environment but have many other things to do at work. So we have come up with our mixed recycling and collection service. Simply throw everything recyclable into one bag (no more sorting paper form plastic!) fill the bags up and when our cleaners come in they will put them out to collected by our trucks and taken to the recycling plant where it will be sorted and recycled. We are making it easy for our clients so we can all do our bit to reduce excess waste.
